The Digital Omnibus Agreement, provisionally agreed by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU in May 2026, substantially reshapes the implementation timeline of the EU AI Act. Obligations applicable to high-risk AI systems in areas such as biometric identification and critical infrastructure have been pushed to 2027, while requirements for AI embedded in medical devices and autonomous vehicles will not apply until 2028. The agreement also introduces new prohibitions and extends certain regulatory simplifications to small mid-cap companies.
